Jeremy Besch came to Park in 2002. He became Head of Upper School in 2009. His Park career includes teaching English, coaching the cross-country team, and serving as Dean of Students for the Middle and Upper schools. Prior to coming to Park, Jeremy taught English, coached running, and advised an entire class of young men through their four-year course of study at an all-boys prep school in Southeastern Michigan.
Jeremy holds a Bachelors Degree in English with a focus on writing from Canisius College, where he was a Division I student athlete in both cross country and track and field. He is working toward a Masters Degree in Executive Leadership and Change, with a focus on Leadership in Higher Education. His professional experience spans both private and independent schools, and includes administration, classroom teaching, curriculum development, teacher development and evaluation, student advisement, and coaching.
In addition to serving as Park's Head of Upper School, Jeremy is on the board of directors of Compass House, a non-profit organization that works to provide safe haven, counseling, and resources to homeless and runaway youth in Western New York. He is also a founding board member of reweave, a non-profit organization that seeks to pair start-up enterprises in economically challenged communities across the planet with resources, professional collaborators, and education in practices that allow for long-term sustainability and the strengthening of their local communities.
A native Buffalonian raised in the University Heights neighborhood, Jeremy has two children attending Park. He is excited to be working at Park as Buffalo rediscovers itself and is experiencing a renaissance that in many ways matches Park's long-standing practices and philosophy: embracing the natural environment, building on the knowledge of our interesting histories, and having the courage to continuously seek new opportunities and experiences will help both Park and Buffalo grow and prosper throughout the next century and beyond.
