9th grade, Cuneiform and Hieroglyphic Tablets

Students in 9th grade World History have been learning about ancient River Valley civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus Valley.  As part of the project, students went to the art room at Park where they could choose to write their name or a short message in Cuneiform writing (from Mesopotamia) or in Hieroglyphics (from Egypt) on a premade clay tablet.

Students in 9th grade World History have been learning about ancient River Valley civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus Valley.  Each of these civilizations developed their own unique written systems, which were used for economic reasons, political or religious reasons, or reasons unknown because they have not yet been deciphered.  Students went to the art room for a day where they could choose to write their name or a short message in Cuneiform writing (from Mesopotamia) or in Hieroglyphics (from Egypt) on a premade clay tablet.  The tablets were then fired in a kiln by Mrs. Polaske or Ms. Wright and then students had the option to glaze them afterwards if they wanted too.
